Project Based Inquiry
In ECI 546, New Literacies and Media, I created a project based inquiry global. The main goal of the project being to advance my use of technology integration. The topic of my project was recycling. I used a video, website and book to explore the topic of recycling. The students used Voki to share what they learned about recycling. Voki is where students use speaking animated characters. Using Voki in this lesson captured the student’s attention. They were engaged in the learning and eager to share what they had learned.
TPACK
Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) is a concept I learned about in ECI 546, New Literacies and Media. TPACK is a framework that identifies three types of knowledge teachers need for successful technology integration: technological, pedagogical and content knowledge. I can use the TPACK framework in my teaching by planning the content or curriculum goals first, then selecting the instructional strategies and assessments that will be effective for teaching the curriculum goals and lastly deciding whether technology can support the goals and instructional strategies. Effectively integrating technology into instruction will increase student motivation and enhance their learning experience.
Digitalize Vocabulary Activity
In ECI 541, Reading in the Content Areas, I created an infographic to display a digital tool to help students learn vocabulary. I chose the digital tool Kids Wordsmyth. Kids Wordsmyth is a visual dictionary where students can search for and explore words. Students can hear the words pronounced, read definitions, and see pictures of the word. This tool is an engaging way for students to learn vocabulary.
Digital Learner Poll
In ECI 546, New Literacies and Media, I polled my students to find out what they say about the value of technology for their learning. I polled my students using Plickers. Plickers allow teachers to collect data by each student having a card that displays a QR code. The students rotate the cards to answer the question. From this poll, I learned that the students enjoy using technology. Incorporating technology into instruction will ensure students are staying engaged in their learning.
Cool Tool Blast
In ECI 546, New Literacies and Media, I created a sample project using a technology tool. I used the tool Storybird. The website allows children to create stories using visuals and words. I created a sample project in which students can create their own fairy tale based on one of the fairy tales read in class. Storybird will allow students to be creative and engaged in their writing.
